I have the same model card, but it says it's an 53c810a when my 1.6.2
box boots (note the 'a' suffix). dmesg|grep siop says:
siop0 at pci0 dev 15 function 0: Symbios Logic 53c810a (fast scsi)
siop0: interrupting at irq 5
scsibus0 at siop0: 8 targets, 8 luns per target

The only other message I see is the occasional
st0(siop0:0:5:0): Check Condition on CDB: 0x08 00 00 80 00 00
when amanda tries to read a non-existent label on a tape.
