What about the dxr3? It's supported by MPlayer. I don't know whether
you need kernel support for it. It does exactly what you suggested,
VGA-Passthrough and/or TV-Out. Well, with AGP you'd have more choices
because many (if not most) graphic adapters have TV-Out nowadays and
XFree86 supports it in some drivers.
