Version 4.2.0 (NetBSD 1.6) and 4.2.1 (NetBSD 1.6.1) lacked support for lots
of old cards. 4.3.0 (NetBSD 1.6.2) has improved this situation. You could
try to download a snapshot herE:

Installing 1.5 is a bit to drastic. You can still build the old X11 servers
with "pkgsrc/x11/xservers" and use them with XFree86 4.x.
