Turns out my problem was lack of recursion in my nameserver when the
queries came from the v6 addresses.  Some things worked, others
didn't.  Adding my v6 address ranges to allow-recursion fixed things
nicely.

(Thanks to Greg Troxel for pointing me to his server and mentioning
that it won't allow recursion for me.  That put the right thought into
my mind.)
