Depend on what do you need to do. If you don't care about OpenGL/3D and so on, 
then i guess almost any descent card should work fine. For example i use 
NVidia GeForce4 MX440 with XFree86 4.3.0 and don't see any ptoblems. Though i 
don't see any 3D acceleration too :)
