The result seem to vary. Usually it will _only_ show the wd0d partition 
+ the error below. Once it showed a totally screwed up label (after 
sysinst), and once it hung up.

Yes.

An error message show up quite often when using disklabel (eg. 
#disklabel wd0):
disklabel: boot block size 0
disklabel: super block size 0

When editing the disklabel it will usually give the error:
wd0: no disklabel
