Ooops, ok... I was wrong.  It doesn't work for me, too. Sorry.

I tested it with /bin/sh, /bin/ksh, and with /bin/bash on Linux.
All the three said 3: Bad file descriptor.
But with my zsh it was ok.  Maybe it helps you.
