Depends on what you mean by "secure".  From what do you want to protect
yourself?  Some distributed file systems that are more "secure" (in some 
aspects) than NFS are

	AFS 	http://www.openafs.org, pkgsrc/net/arla
	CODA	http://www.coda.cs.cmu.edu, options(4), pkgsrc/net/coda*
	SFS	http://www.sfs.net, pkgsrc/security/sfs
