is KDE as crappy or i did something wrong?

i'm using my 16MB RAM handmade X terminal (just netbsd 1.5 kernel+X
server+nas sound) for a long time, running lots of apps concurrently and
works all fine. base machine is 192MB RAM pentium.

and i tried KDE just to look at.

X terminal needed swap or it was just unable to work after splash screen.
turned on swap (over NFS) - it was swapping almost all the time being
unusable.

added more RAM to machine (36MB now), STILL NEEDS SWAP but uses it less
often.

again - am i doing something wrong or KDE really requires so huge amount
or X resources (even with all effect and desktop wallpaper off)
