I don't know about that particular motherboard, but I have used systems with motherboards that had temp./fan speed alarms.  They have ranged from beeping to solid "screaming" (which scared the bejeezus out of the high school admin who called me about it!)

If you want to see if the board is doing that, on your next reboot, check the bios - there are settings for what is monitored, what the warning and cut-off levels are, and whether to use an audible alarm.

Again, I haven't had exp. with this MB personally, so I can't tell you.  However, my viewpoint with regard to the reseller's response is never rule anything out.  The *only* software part is BS.

I'll leave the question about whether NetBSD would do that to more knowledgable people than I. :)
