Are you sure, it's shut down? Maybe, it's just in stand-by mode. I have
a mainboard with a SiS 735 chip. This chip has a hardwired feature which
turns the system into stand-by whenever you press CTRL-ALT-BS. I haven't
asked for this feature but there seems to be no possibility to turn it
off - not even in the BIOS setup.

Have you tried a smaller MTU? That "solved" the problem for me.
