i've tried both password:	compat with password_compat:	nis and
the + entries in passwd and group.  same thing.  it's just just strange.
unfortunately tcpdump on netbsd sparc64 core dumps and doesn't provide
anything useful.  ktrace and kdump do show the passwd entry being
returned from the correct server map.  master is sunos 4.1.4.
