I've had problems too, which I still haven't been able to track down.
I'm now using a stock 1.6 kernel with 1.6.1 userland, everything seems
to work. Booting the 1.6.1 kernel OTOH crashes the box after 1-3 hours
of uptime. Still no idea why.
