Hello,
I have a 1.6_STABLE system with an ISA<->PCMCIA adapter. I have been
using SanDisk CF cards (15 and 24 MB) without problems for quite
some time (since 1.5_something), but now I have encountered new cards
which do not work. These cards work on digital cameras and other
devices, but not on my NetBSD system. It seems that the card information
is not probed properly which makes NetBSD believe there are 0 heads,
which in turn causes a system panic if I try to access the CF card.
I accidentally left one such card in the PCMCIA slot last night and
when I returned, the system was in a reboot-panic-reboot loop (I guess
the daily script tried to run disklabel on the CF card which caused
a kernel panic and after that, the system paniced at every boot).
Both failing cards fail the same way. One card is a 512 MB "extrememory"
card, the other is a 128 MB Pretec card.
dmesg output with the 512 MB info (not probed correctly) is attached.
On a friend's laptop, the card probes like this:
wd1 at wdc2 channel 0 drive 0: <512MB CHH>
wd1: drive supports 1-sector PIO transfers, LBA addressing
wd1: 488 MB, 993 cyl, 16 head, 63 sec, 512 bytes/sect x 1000944 sectors
I'll build a new kernel if anyone has ideas of what I could try.
The PCMCIA adapter I have works OK with the older CF's, so it can't
be _all_ bad - but what else could it be?
Thanks,
-jm
