maybe offtopic a little but i subscribed compaq testdrive account and
tested this machine:
Red Hat Adv Svr 2.1 on Intel Intel 1@1.0GHz (Itanium II) telnet to 192.233.54.174

and - things like gzipping large files was far much slower than on celeron
1200 machine (at LEAST 3 times). it was done FROM disk to /dev/null to
make sure their nfs mounted home won't slow down.

the question is: is itanium processor overadvertised and is it jsut piece
of crap, or linux for IA64 is piece of crap?

if second - will there be NetBSD/itanium sometime?
