This is always a bit of problem with sendmail. Had such things here with cyrus.
The first thing you must have, is the SUID root, which you already have. The
other thing might be the S flag in the mailer definition, if you give a
user/group for the mailer to run as.

After adding the S flag, cyrus suddently delivered mails not coming from root
without any problems.
