Probably not, actually. At the very least, on i386 the new assembler
will bitch heavily about old source tree constructs that are no longer
legal, and you'll have other problems.
Systems are meant to be dealt with as a unit. The reason for the
build.sh mechanism is so that you can bootstrap a toolchain matched to
your source tree. Using toolchains that aren't matched to the source
tree can't ever be guaranteed to work.
