Have you ever stopped to think of how much larger your messages are
because of all the HTML markup?

While it may not make much of a difference to you, to people who pay for
their bandwidth it does. What's the point in sending more data to to get
the exact same message across? 

As others have mentioned, this type of list is a lowest common
denomiator type of list, meaning plaintext is the rule of thumb. And I
doubt you have anything to say that you need HTML for. So don't be a
dick.
