With NetBSD the syntax is :pa=none:.

Of course, the first stupid mistake was, not to read remote(5).
I only read tip(1) (which recommends remote(5)) and looked at the
comments at the top of /etc/remote.

Then I was blind to the content of /etc/remote:
  # REMEMBER NOT TO USE PARITY!
  console:dv=/dev/tty01:br#9600:pa=none:dc:
