Read the mailer.conf(5) and mailwrapper manual pages.

Install Exim (or Postfix) via the pkgsrc (or from a binary package). Or
install normally, but do not copy (or link) over /usr/sbin/sendmail
(mailq, or newaliases).

Then configure your /etc/mailer.conf.
