While running a process (pnmtopng) with a VSS of ~300-600MB, I've
noticed on initalisation it will temporarily grab as much in-core free
memory as it can (~100MB in a system with 128), but within a second this
settles down to 58M, 37M of Inactive memory appears 'from nowhere', and
much disk thrashing. Is there a way to tell the pagedaemon not to be so
eager and otherwise tune this behavior?
