Hi,

when browsing some IT magazines I found following information:

Telia (some telecommunication company) changed from 70 Unix
servers to a z900 with linux. Morgan Stanley (financial services) is in
the process to change from their Unix server farms to Linux-
Mainframes. The Deutsche Telekom evaluates to do the same for
their E-Mail server farms to mainframes. According to IBMs
(surprise) Francis Kuhlen, respinsible for the european server
market at IBM, allmost all financial service prividers and insurances
evaluate to change Linux mainframes. The excellent transaction
performance of these computers makes them interesting for those
markets.

Interesting: Meatahost.net, an ASP in Vancouver (Canada(?) the
article does not tell), use a single S/390 for 2500 to 25000 users.
The cost per user on their traditional x86 server farm was USD 30,--
on the mainframe only USD 1,--.

Now if that information is correct, it makes sense, they save from
72.500 USD to 725.000 USD. Of course that is a little bit unclear,
because a "traditional x86 server farm" is far away of being an
exact defenition.

However this information should be enough for everyone interested
to do further investigations.

HTH
