Hi,

the S/390 will let you assign a specific CPU and/or IO performance
to a linux partition. To have the same effect under Linux one needed
realtime extensions. IIRC it is possible to run several OS/390
instances side by side. The licensing sheme on the S/390 is often
based upon CPU usage, that can be done more easy if you
dedicate a given CPU performance to a linux partition. And then you
may not forget that there will be security problems if there are more
people having root access to one instance of Linux, on a higher end
S/390 several hundred Linux partitions can be run each with the
same or higher performance than a GHz. Intel CPU.
