Yes, that works fine. I use it to pass data coming from Windows
clients (using samba) directly to the printer. The Windows clients
have the appropriate drivers for that printer installed, and generally
do a much better job at color correction than any ghostscript driver
could.

If the lpd would alter only one byte, I think the printer would not
print correctly.
