No, usually not. He meant notebooks' _internal_ modems are usually
WinModems (or even multifunction Audio/Modem devices, as in my
BayCOM).

But one could circumvent this problem by getting a cheap PCMCIA modem,
which is handled just like a serial interface software-wise. (Even
NetBSD sees a "com1 at pcmcia0" or the like.)
