this is my problem too, I simply have not the time to test enough 
and keep up to date. Many experiences are outdated as they were 
made a year or two ago.

I can get a DPT UW for about USD 100,--. I think I remembered an 
technical article that some Raid controllers with cache were slower 
than softwareraid (Linux database tests IIRC), but there are other 
things to consider too.
