You are right, that's how it works.

The PPP over Ethernet I do understand. That's how it works here in Germany
too.

The "or tunneld through PPTP" is the part I don't understand.
This must be some gross hack to make the windows software easier :-)
Sound like you have a choice: so stay away from PPTP.
