I don't know the internals, but from a user's point of view it looks better
now than one month ago.
Yesterday I put the driver from -current (along with some other files) in
my
1.4.2 box and now the mixer application doesn't lock the machine any
more (with the previous version the PC sometimes became unresponsive
for some seconds.)
