Thanks, I got round the problem by installing OS-BS as that all lives on
track 0. I then found another stumbling block of which I should have
thought before; fstab referred to wd1 not wd0 so it sulked into single
user mode. I got round this by mounting the / filesystem rw and then
renaming fstab and using cat to enter a correct version from the
console. It seems to be happy now :)
