Thanks to all who responded.  I started out looking for acroread but
missed it in pkgsrc, hence my post.  The box is an i386, and yes, I forgot
to mention that.  Not a sharp day for me, I guess.  I'm downloading all
the SuSE stuff and trust that once my feeble modem is done with the
dependencies I'll be off and running.
