Subject: Lowest serial latency?

Soon I'll be connecting my GPS receiver to one of my NetBSD-1.4.1
boxes. The GPS receiver uses the NEMA/GPRMC/GPZDA formats, using PPS for
the sync pulse. Since this is going into the NetBSD box via the serial
port, I'd like to select the best platform for this (i.e. lowest serial
latency).

My question is: Out of a DEC Alpha 3000/300LX, A SUN SS5-85, an Intel
PPro, and a Mac68k (Quadra 650), which platform might have the best
(lowest) serial latency? My initial guess would be the i386 (I've heard
mentionings of MAC and SUN serial problems (which I'm not sure are true),
and I don't know much about the serial handling on the alpha).

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Thanks 10e6.
