on a 1.4.1 machine top shows:

load averages: 1.11, 1.20, 1.20
20:56:56
77 processes: 2 running, 75 sleeping
CPU states: 4.5% user, 0.0% nice, 4.1% system, 1.8% interrupt, 89.6%
idle
Memory: 30M Act 5012K Inact 588K Wired 21M Free 7904K Swap 121M Swap free

however, none of the processes seem to be taking any significant CPU time

PID USERNAME PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE TIME WCPU CPU COMMAND
27082 xxxxx 10 0 512K 240K run 1:20 1.17% 1.17% fvwm2
  236 xxxxx 28 0 380K 308K run 0:00 1.17% 1.03% top

CPU drops after that.

Any ideas why the load is pegged near 1?

Thanks
