The Alpha has a not blazingly fast internal SCSI interface which happens to
be one of few boards actually supported via the boot prom. I was
interrested in determining if one might be able to connect the SCSI chain
together with a faster chain, allowing one to boot off the same disk but off
a different adapter.
Obviously, it would be probably be much better to 1) netboot the box, or 2)
have a boot disk and an actual disk which are seperate.
I guess it's more a curiosity. Does anyone know if it would be possible to
run the following scenario?:
Interal narrow SCSI controller connected via a converter
to a wide chain.
A good PCI wide SCSI card connected to the same wide chain.
A wide SCSI drive operating off of the wide chain (and,
via the converter, the narrow chain as well).
Default SCSI id of 7 for one of the adapters, and perhaps
a SCSI id of 6 for the secondary adapter.
A kernel which is instructed to mount the root file system
via the fast SCSI controller. Note that the kernel
would be loaded by the slow internal SCSI controller.
