You may want to send a transcript, so that we can see what the errors
are.

Make sure that tin doesn't specify an SVR4-style curses.  If it does,
try installing ncurses.  You can get ncurses from
<URL:ftp://prep.ai.mit.edu/pub/gnu> or
<URL:ftp://ftp.netcom.com/pub/zm/zmbenhal/ncurses>.
