NFS is speced to use UDP, an unreliable datagram transport.  NFS will
retransmit packets as necessary.  BSD's NFS implementation does
support an additional TCP transport that works better over WANs.

PPP just frames datagrams for transmission over serial media and
definitely does not do retransmission.
