You might look at the version from FreeBSD.cdrom.com packages.
This support TaylorUUCP lock files and also fixes SETUID, if you
want to use it for calling out (other than as root).
Scott Mace was supposed to have sent in the patches, but I don't
know if they are in the distribution yet.

Scott Mace also has a beta version available, if you want to help test
it.
