Open office writer (soffice)
works ok when user is root. That is
the java based "wizards" work as intended.

However the "wizards" hang when launched as
a local user with the following error messages


Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM warning: Can't detect initial thread stack 
location -
  find_vma failed


According to some miscellaneous rummaging the above message
is due to a "proc" query that is rejected. This occurs as user root
or local user.

These errors occur specifically for the local user. I ma not a native 
java speaker and would appreciate if someone might use their secret 
decoder ring on the following
