I've had similar problems with various pc/os where the cd disappears
during install. Three solutions I've found in these cases have been
either to have a copy of cd on a dos partition (easy if you already
have one) or ftp or nfs install either over internet or from a cd or
copy mounted on another system (the installs from local copies can be
faster than from cdrom).
I've used one or other of these methods with OS/2, Linux FreeBSD and
NetBSD. I've done installs over for the latter three).
