If you want to optimize for the machine you're building on, a fairly safe
option is to install devel/cpuflags and put something like the following in
your mk.conf: 
.sinclude "/usr/pkg/share/mk/cpuflags.mk"

cpuflags(1) will then determine the appropriate flags for the current CPU
type and use those for the build.
