I recently posted to this list regarding a discrepancy in the version
my X server reported. I'm running NetBSD 3.0, which should have
XFree86 version 4.5.0. However, xdm's log gave NetBSD 1.5.2 with
XFree86 3.x. A responder to that e-mail (thanks to Mark Par) suggested
checking XFree86 -version. I poked a bit further, and got the
following (notice that X and XFree86 give different results):

If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your card is newer
than the above date, look for a newer version before reporting
	problems. (see http://www.XFree86.Org/FAQ)
