I used the memtest from the 2.0.2 packages.  The free machine has just
jumped from $0 to the cost of new memory (and some of my free time :).  
(Hmmm, how much to I trust this piece of junk to be firewall machine???)

Memtest is puking all over a section of memory.  It seems to drop a bit.
Looks like it's a 4 or 8Meg chunk.

It appears that you diagnosed the problem pretty acurately, thanks.
