Yep. de, de_DE, de_DE.ISO8859-1, de.DE.ISO8859-15 -- all without effect. 
Funny thing is: When I call 'env LC_ALL=de firefox' and print from that 
via a2ps, I get the console printout message from a2ps in German. So in 
principle it looks like the right knob, but not for the Mozilla family?
