It seems odd that you needed to install foomatic-rip.  This seems to
be for use in 'direct printing', and CUPS seems to have foomatic glue
already.  I can print to an Epson Stylus Photo 1200 without having
installed this.  There is bin/foomatic-gswrapper, which is in the
foomatic-gswrapper pkg, required by cupsomatic.

I haven't figure out slpd.  But CUPS will work fine locally without
it, and also using cups-proprietary browsing for remote printers.
