I've had good luck with uplcom devices. I think the one I have is an I/o gear.
Seems to work fine with crossover and rollover cables. Seems to work ok
with most systems, e.g. hp, sgi, pc's, although I've never tried using one with
a sun. I can dig up the exact model number if you like. They are nice because
the usb cable and the adapter are one piece, so unlike other adapters, the usb
cable can't fall out of adapter frob, which happens all to often with other
adpaters when adjacent cables get pulled on.
