Subject: (i386) bootup locks when nothing listens on serial console

My i386 machines (1.5.2, 1.6.2) boot fine with serial bootblocks installed, when someone
listens on the appropriate com port, but if there is nothing listening on com port,
the bootup blocks. Needless to say, this blocking is undesireable in certain situations.
Someone actually mentioned to me that this problem was discussed a while ago, but I could
not track the answer/solution.
Thanks in advance
Boris
