It does for me.

Maybe this is the ACPI HAL issue that is described in the VM Ware docs.

I've booted and installed W2K in an 128M virtual machine.  But the disk was
just a file.

This could be the X11 issue.  Try DISPLAY=localhost:0.

I'm using 1.6.x, though.
