I'm not sure of the fastest way to get large text on your
PowerBook, but I've been trying (although not very hard) to
achieve the opposite effect: squeezing more characters on a
larger screen.

Thinking about it, if you were to install and configure the
X Window system to display at a lower resolution, that might
be a fairly simple way to make everything look larger.  How
large is the display on your PowerBook G3?
