you also need to tell mutt to use maildir mbox
format because it uses mbox per default

just add this line to your .muttrc :

set mbox_type=Maildir

if required you can also tell mutt
where the mbox is, where you want to
keep sent messages, postponed ones
and so on. to check available config options
please use "man muttrc" (and not "man mutt").

while i do use mbox format, i have put my
muttrc on the web, you can check it if you
want some stuff like color :)
