Hi all,

I'm new to NetBSD and recently received *excellent* help from this list
that saved me from slashing my wrists. In addition, I received two
detailed, off-line followup explanations that were both educational and
encouraging. I forwarded one of the responses to a friend I was
evangelizing to NetBSD as another straw to throw on the camel's back as to
why he should explore the OS. He just installed it this weekend, BTW, and
is already thanking me profusely! ;-)

I am looking forward to the day that I know enough to be as
helpful/encouraging to someone else, and I thought I might start
contributing by mentioning that the MAC address can be determined w/NetBSD
by using the dmesg output.

A quick way would be to type:

dmesg | grep MAC
and
dmesg | grep Ethernet

Funkily, I noticed that one of my NICs referred to it's MAC address with
the "Ethernet Address" synonym, so you'd need to type both commands to be
sure you get all adapters.

Alternatively, you could just type:
dmesg | grep address and throw out the 2 or 3 extraneous entries that
have nothing to do with NICs.

Hope this is not restating the obvious. If so, it is merely born out of a
desire to be helpful! ;-)

Thanks again for all the wonderful information I've gotten in a *very*
short time.
