I've been making my rounds through the open source unix-like OSes on a
recently purchased used Compaq Proliant 1850R server with little success.
Since NetBSD supports SMP on i386 I was hoping to have more luck with it.

Note, this server currently only has 1 processor installed.

Is there anyone on the list which has experience installing NetBSD on a
Proliant 1850R? The system configuration for this computer is a lot more
challenging than I thought when I purchased it (I've been building and working
with computers for a long time). I do have the SmartStart 5.5 CDs and have
created a system configuration partition on one of the hard disks (3x 9.1 GB
scsi). Also, while searching the 'net I came across a post about 1600 which
indicated that I should go into Advanced Configuration mode (press Ctrl-A at
first menu of System Configuration Utillity) and enable "Full Table" support
for the APIC.

Anyway, there is seems to be a configuration item I have missed since I am not
able to successfullly/completely install OpenBSD, FreeBSD or NetBSD. I have
not tried Linux yet.

Thank you for reading this.
